I would try to bring it up and then it would go too far. This was in the days before mobile phones when I would be doing lots of long drives from Edinburgh to Manchester.

I would look at the little orange SOS emergency phones by the side of the motorway and remember the distances so if pay day loan I broke down I could estimate the shortest walk back. Luckily, it only happened once. I love cars so when I was an athlete I used to drive on the track at Oulton Park at the end of each cycling season. I would get around 4-5 track days each year. I would just turn up, drive and have fun.

My very first track day was in Bedford about ten years ago and I just loved it. I bought a Caterham R400 in 2009. It was such a simple, fun car to drive. The cars are really lightweight, with no driver aids, ABS or traction control.

It is basically you, your pedals and your steering wheel so you feel every bump and vibration. It is a very raw driving experience. In an age when technology can always take cars to the next level, it sometimes dilutes the whole experience, so this raw driving experience really appeals to me. I had my first opportunity to actually race cars in 2012. It was at Oulton Park when Roger Green at Radical invited me to a novice race championship (the Radical Sportscars SR1 Cup).

I have since raced in the British GT Championship and the European Le Mans Series and last year I finished the Le Mans 24 Hour race. The Caterhams will be a far cry from the 24 Hours of Le Mans. These races are only half an hour long but they are no less competitive. There have been a lot of successful drivers who have come in as a guest driver for one-off rounds and not done that well so I am not expecting a lot. And it is so unpredictable. Even top drivers can be on the podium one weekend, then 16th the next.

If you make a slight mistake you can lose ten places in the blink of an eye. I have had plenty of spins into the gravel but being scared is just part of pushing the boundaries. You find your limits and work back from there.

The scariest moment was probably racing in bad conditions at night in Silverstone at a 24-hour race in my LMP3 race pay day loan car.
